My attention was recently drawn to the music video for the current number one British hit of Little Mix called ‘Black Magic’. It is not, you may presume, my normal viewing! In fact these sorts of music videos are actually extremely important because they are one of the main ways that our culture influences how young people think and act.

I have a number of friends who are battling cancer with the near certainty that death is coming to them. It’s at times like this I realise how little teaching there is on death and how we should face it. It’s understandable in a world that doesn’t want to talk about death and prefers to hope that there might be an opt-out clause.
With my Greek background I have been watching the unfolding drama of Greece with a mixture of confusion, concern and compassion. I had perhaps naïvely assumed that my failure to understand what was going on was because I’m not an economist but I now realise that even economists don’t understand either!
As a Greek Cypriot I am saddened at the humiliating injuries inflicted on a people by the financial policies of the European Union. The Greeks are a proud people, with much to be proud of, being rooted in a beautiful heritage and culture. Wherever the blame lies, this devastating debacle is not what was ever intended for our united Europe.
